One of our goals here at Parks & Rec is to get our community as healthy as we can be. To get you moving, feeling good, motivated, energized, enjoying life – getting you into “your happy place.” We realize we do not have the facilities of larger areas, we are a small community. But, we truly believe we offer a large variety of programs to fit everyone’s needs to help you become a fit, healthy individual so you can live your best life. We thank the local businesses and Munising Public schools for the use of their facilities – without this support we could not offer these opportunities to our community.
We all know we are not a Marquette with NMU and a YMCA, but we do have a “mini-me” Y – just minus a few things. We don’t have 20 of everything, but we have enough of all things to get a great all-around total body work-out for all of your fitness needs. We have everything for all ages, gender and ability. We offer flexible hours to fit your schedule. Do you need to keep in shape for your job? Keep up with your kids? Just want to feel good? Take the time – a mere 30 minutes a day – to take care of yourself. The benefits of exercise are unbelievable to our health and our aging process. Not to mention the mental health benefits for relieving stress and releasing the all important endorphins. Now is the time to put you first.

APRD now has a personal trainer to customize training sessions tailored specifically to help you achieve your goals. Including specific sports and/or jobs, nutrition and weight management, cardiovascular and strength training, and general health. Welcoming all levels from beginner to advance. Available 7 days a week by appointment 6 am - 10 pm.

There is also a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire for the Personal Trainer participants to fill out. This will help the trainer get the best program started to fit your abilities.
Are you ready to keep learning? We have so much more to teach you on heallthy living. The first twelve weeks we learned how to read labels, good and bad fats, and the basics of exercise and much, much more. Continue on with the learning experience so you can really get it, really know what to do, and put everything together so it is truly a way of life. Be Happy and Healthy!!! Class is held on Tuesdays for 12 weeks. Class starts February 21, 2012.
If you are looking for the following - then this class is for you: "Gentle, lwo impact work-out." A workout that combines gentle movements and helps decrease pain, stiffness and add range of motion for those who suffer from arthritis or gibromyalgia. Improves overall strength, flexibility and balance - class includes stretching and relaxation.

Have fun, meet new people and get some exercise. Water Aerobics is fantastic for those who prefer exercise that is not jarring to the bones, joints and muscles. Get a great workout without the impact. Just what the doctor ordered.

A cardio work-out that can't be beat! This class offers regular aerobic training and conditioning with weights and floor work routines. Research has shown interval training is more beneficial than a straight 45-minute workout. The absolute best total body workout.

Good morning Yoga. Wake up and stretch your limbs, lungs, and LIFE! This gentle, invigorating morning yoga practice will help you to become more in tune with your breath and body, as well as giving your body a good stretch. First time you have thought about trying yoga? Please come and discover the relaxing potential your body inherently has. Yoga benefits the body in the aging process.

Yoga - explore the fundamantals of yoga through pranayama (breathing) asana (posture) and vinyasa (flow) to improve strength and endurance. Each class is carefully structured to give a well balanced workout for the muscles, joints, organs, and nervous system. Flexibility, balance and concentration are increased through the practice of yoga flow.
